ON TO BIGGER THINGS!

I decided I would make curtains for our basement.  I wanted something light and airy!

I used a 3/2 cotton gold for the warp and white 3/2 for the weft.

I did a little plain leno weaving.  I wanted the light to come in but not people to see in as these windows are actually at ground level.

Disaster!!!

I read on line you could use Lionbrand homespun for warp and weft!  Not a pretty site for me.

I could not keep the tension right.  It went wonky!  I loved the feel of it and I did manage to get about a 30 X 24 inch square done.  I thought I had more of the warp color which is a brighter red.  I decided just to go with it the way it was.  Disaster 2.  As you can see I gave up and cut the ends.  It feels great and will be a table center at some point.  On the list of never to attempt again!

Weaving continued!

As I began learning, I began realizing I was lost in a world that involved cotton for weaving.

It was a big change.  I learned more on Craftsy -taking classes.

Rigid Heddle Weaving: Beyond the Basics

Simply Stunning Scarves

I made a scarf out of blue and gold  cotton yarn.   I designed the simple pattern and wove hoping for the best.  My selvages were still a problem but I think they plague many weavers.  I was pleased the pattern looked like had planned.

Next, I tried a shawl.  I used cotton 3/2 the warp and Lionbrand homespun for this  prayer shawl.  It was soft and washable.  The woman who received it  loved it!

My cousin Sue sent me the pattern for this in September.  I was intrigued.  (I need to add, Sue is a floor loom weaver and tapestry weaver.)    Figuring out how to do it took a while.  Back to my classes on Craftys and looking at loads of  You Tube video on how to use pick up sticks.  I began the endeavor and persevered.  There are lots of mistakes but I was proud that I had gotten through.  It was published in Handwoven Magazine.  A small section of the pattern was published and I attempted  it.

Pickup Stick & Finger Control Techniques

Creative Weaving Techniques on the Rigid Heddle Loom

Again I went back to Craftsy and my online classes.

This was my first time of using a pick stick.  It was also my first time attempting to twist the fringe.

THE JOURNEY INTO WEAVING

Weaving!
1 year into it and learning so much!

I am relatively new to to weaving.  I started 1 year ago.  It is hard to believe how much I have learned and how much I have to learn.  I started with a small children's type loom.
This little Beka got me started on my love of weaving but it was very limited.

Quickly realized I loved weaving and my supportive husband said buy the one you want as long as it is not huge! No floor looms for this household.  No room!  I started with an Ashford 32 inch on a stand.  It was a dream come true.

I took some online Craftsy classes.  I enjoyed them hugely and learned so much!

For a new weaver with no one close by to advise, this was so helpful!  I would recommend to anyone!
